JIMMY was to be a professional tap dancer. And in his early 20s, he was on his way … until a horrible knee injury. He rehabbed like crazy to get back to where he had a chance again … only to re-injure his knee. The dream never died, but had to be put on hold.

Now in his mid-30s, with a regular job and happily married to his best friend, TESS, he sees one last chance to still go for it. A showcase for a touring dance show is coming to his town. To be chosen means being a part of the touring show for a whole year. He’ll have to compete against younger and better dancers, and to make it even harder, his surgically repaired knee never recovered 100%, making it difficult to do moves that once came so easily. But no one wants it more, and no one will work harder.

As that’s going on, Tess’ troubled sister LANIE and her 9-year-old daughter KIT come live with them. Kit is upset about her mom and dad splitting up, and won’t talk to anyone. However, she loves to dance, and sneaks off one day to watch Jimmy practice. They end up doing a little tap dance routine together and as they bond, she starts coming out of her shell, and in turn she starts gaining self-esteem.

As the day of the showcase nears, the obstacles keep mounting for Jimmy. His knee starts hurting, a new amazing tap dancer enters the competition, and Tess and Jimmy’s financial situation worsens. Due to all this, Jimmy’s confidence starts to fade – until Kit returns the favor and helps get Jimmy back on track.

When the big day of the showcase arrives, it becomes all that much clearer how brilliant the competition is. Even those who believe in Jimmy the most, know the odds are great.

And now it’s his turn to dance. Will he be able to rise above all the competition, and his own shortcomings, to dance the performance of his life? If so, then his lifelong dream will be realized.

We want to raise $30,000 in development funds. Help us get DANCE BABY DANCE made.

Hayley Shukiar - 8 year old Hayley began performing when she was 3.  You may recognize her from the AT&T commercials with Beck Bennett or Lexus.  She has filmed for UCLA, USC and New York Film Academy. She is at home on a stage and some of her favorite roles include: Tootie in Meet Me In St. Louis, Veruca in Willy Wonka, and Ursula in The Little Mermaid.  She has performed with musicians such as Ingrid Michaelson and Laurie Berkner. Hayley is represented by Abrams Artists.

Misty Rosas
- Misty began dancing at age three and has continued to dance ever since.  She applied her terpsichorean talents to her parallel career as an Elite gymnast and her first professional engagement was, in fact, dancing in "Fantasmic!" for Walt Disney Productions.  Her career has expanded into television and film where, recently, Misty has performed the title role of "Sid, the Science Kid" for PBS/Jim Henson Company, and revisited her work as a film stunt woman by performing in the "Hunger Games" sequel, "Catching Fire".  She is also growing as a songwriter and vocalist, performing with her band all around town at the House of Blues, Genghis Cohen, and Molly Malone's.  She has already produced three music videos of her original music, and is nominated this year for an HMMA award for her music video and original song, "Panic Button". Misty continues her dance study at The Edge Performing Arts Center, under Terri Best, and she is ecstatic to be a part of this wonderful movie about chasing your dreams, "Dance Baby Dance".

Travis Huff -
Travis is a professional filmmaker with almost a decade of industry experience. After studying, directing and acting as part of the Film Studies program at Bowling Green State University, Travis moved out to LA in 2005 and started working on many notable TV shows and studio films. Her passion is to bring hope to a hopeless world and build up society instead of tearing it down by utilizing television and film.

Combining the two, he is perfectly situated to offer world class marketing services to the entertainment industry. Hi All,

Great news! We'll be making our film in February 2016!

We'll be posting all updates about casting, screenings, and other news in our newsletter/mailing list and social media pages. All of these can be found at our website: http://www.dancebabydancemovie.com/

Thank you all again for your support and I can't wait to share the film with you!

Stephen

09 Sep 2015

Hello all,

It's been a while since I've updated, but we have some news to share.

The casting process, which we started a while back, takes a long time. Certainly longer than we were anticipating. But we're starting to see some results. Jamie Kennedy (best known from "Malibu's Most Wanted) is interested in a role, and we're going to be making offers to Henry Winkler and Jenna Dewan Tatum very soon.

We have a financier who is excited about our film, but he's waiting for us to cast first before he raises the rest of our budget.

For now, I can share this Clip-O-Matic trailer we made to give you an idea of the kind of the film we want to make: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcmhFTmJvbY.

A Clip-O-Matic is a collection of existing movie and TV clips put together to showcase the director's vision for a film. To ward off any confusion, no one from any of these clips will be appearing in our film. The sole purpose of this trailer to show that we plan to make an inspirational underdog film about a tap dancer who has to overcome injury and doubt to achieve his dream... Since we don't own any of the rights to these clips, we won't be using it for any other reason than to showcase what our story is about.

As for rewards, we can start sending out the things we have now, like the script. However, posters and T-Shirts won't be available until we actually film, so we can use actual images from our film.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Best,

Stephen
