To Rock or Stock? Sneakerheads will do almost anything to get their hands on a unique pair of kicks, going to such extreme lengths as hiding in trash cans to score a pair of Retro Jordan 11s to camping for days in sub zero temperatures for the latest Nike Foamposites. How did sneakers become as prized as collectable art? From the shores of Cali to the congested streets of Tokyo, Sneakerheadz examines the cultural influence of sneaker collecting around the world and delves into a subculture whose proud members don’t just want to admire art, they want to wear it.
"But you're already going to SXSW, why are you still crowdfunding?"
Because we want to make sure we represent the sneaker culture in an authentic and accurate way! This is my first project that's been funded independently and strictly using personal relationships to get as far as we already have. But that can only do so much, and without a major studio backing this project like some of my other films, we've been working with a very low budget and have only been able to secure rights to show you guys the film at the SXSW Festival. We just need to raise finishing funds for post-production of the film and put together a licensed soundtrack to do justice to the film with some of the classics as well as new tracks never before released.
What does that mean? We need your help to represent the community and help us produce an equally legit sound track to go with the film because, as you all know, the hip hop and sneaker cultures are so closely related and have fueled each other through such epic tracks as “My Adidas” by Run DMC, “Sneakers” by Raekwon, “Classic” by Kanye and Nas, and many more!
So what’s in it for you? Turns out we have some special premiums for all of you who join the team! The coolest ones will get you access to some of the freshest Sneakerheadz gear featuring our exclusively designed movie logo and artwork!
Many of the musicians we're working with on the film (like Wale and DJ Skee!) have all been willing to help, but in order to release their iconic sneaker tracks with the film we need to put together a music licensing budget. Our amazing music supervisor Kathy Nelson (8 Mile, Fast & Furious and Despicable Me) has started getting clearance for some of the hottest tracks (even some that have not been released yet to the public!) to be featured in this film, IF we can afford it beyond this one screening.
We are proud to announce that WALE has come on board as an Executive Producer of the film and will be working with the team to provide a new never before heard track, "The White Shoes", off his upcoming Atlantic album to be in the film!
Excited to announce that MLB pitcher Jeremy Guthrie of the Kansas City Royals has joined the movie as a Co-Executive Producer! This also means we'll get a look at Jeremy's amazing sneaker vault!!!
World-renowned designer of the Nike NYC Pigeon Dunk that changed the sneakerheads community forever!
One of the most influential figures in the sneaker community and the media world at large, DJ Skee has come aboard as narrator and Co-Executive Producer of the movie!
Streetwear & Sneaker Designer
American Graffiti Artist
DJ / Sneaker Designer
As we said, one of the most important parts of telling this story is putting it together with music that is going to help shape the mood and atmosphere the sneaker community lives in. We've gotten the attention of some of hiphop's biggest stars who are sneakerheads themselves, but as you can imagine - these things aren't free ESPECIALLY when a label is involved. In order to clear tracks from some of the amazing artists we have lined up, we're going to need YOUR help to raise the rest of the funds needed to finish this film:
Wale -"The White Shoes" off upcoming Atlantic Album
A-Trak and Lupe Fiasco/original song, "Me and My Sneakers"
And many more...A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Aklo, Run DMC, Public Enemy, Asher Roth, The Roots, Dustin O'Halloran
